CUSTOMS RETURNS.
The following has been collected as Customs Revenue during the week ending Saturday, May 18th :—
D. Macrorie, auctioneer, reports : — The demand for store cattle is at present increasing, but the price is not encouraging, and does not seem to have been affected by the advanced quotations for hides. I have placed under offer in 3 lots about 300 head mixed stores (all under 6 months given in) at from 35s to 40s per head. It is almost impossible to obtain any vendors of sheep, now that the breeding season has commenced. A few fat merino wethers are offering at from 9s to 9s 6d. Properties of every description are enquired for, and I have closed eome transactions for leasing with purchasing clauses, at from 6d to Is 6d per acre, grazing country and farms .being especially in request. The horse market is especially dull, the average sales on each Saturday in the yards being only one or two, and the prices discouraging to vendors. ' Invercargill, 20th May, 1872.
