SPEAK GENTLY.
Speak gently to thy little ones } This world hath cares enow To cool the warm young beating heart. And shade the sunny brow*: O let them roam besidd the stream, And cull the wildwood flowers, Without a cloud from, thee to dim Their bright —their eladsome hours ! Speak gently to thj little ones; Thou dost not know the smart That angry looks and angry words . Give to the fond young heart Of prattlers climbing on thy chair Or clustering round thy knee, O clasp the cherubs to thy breast, And share their sinless glee ! Speak gently to thy little one9 ; Thou canst not tell the day When from thy love-encircling arms They may be snatched away, And then sad memorifls will recall The blightings thou hast given To thy sweet tender flowers on earth, Now blooming fair in heaven.
