The debate was resumed on Mr Lumsden's motion, as follows :—" That an address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to reserve, under section 16 of the ' Southland Waste Lands Act, 1865,' rural land, consisting of sections 18, 19, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, block V., and sections 12 to 25 (inclusive), block VL, Campbeiltown Hundred—comprising an area of 1769 aOr 2p, more or less —as an Endowment for a New River Harbor Trust." Tbe Hon. Dr Menzies moved an amendment wbicb made tbe latter part of the motion read as follows:—" For Bluff and New River Harbors Trust." After some discussion the amendment was lost on tbe voices, and tbe original motion was carried. The Invercargill Reserves Management Bill was considered in Committee, and made an order of tbe day for next sitting day. Tbe Hon. Mr M'Lean moved," Tbat an Address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to reserve and set apart 100,000 acres of pastoral land as a furtber endowment for the Otago University." A long discussion ensued, several amendments were proposed and lost, and the motion was ultimately carried on the voices. Tbe Hon. Mr Holmes moved, " That in tbe opinion of this Council, additional wharfage accommodation is required at Bluff Harbor; and that the Government be requested to take the steps necessary to secure the early completion of the work."—Carried. Mr Bathgate laid upon tbe table a Bill to repeal the Cattle Trespass Ordinance of the late Province of Southland, and an Amendment Bill upon the Invercargill Athenaeum Reserve Ordinance. The Bills were read a first time. The House adjourned till Monday afc two o'clock.
