• "Wellington, May 8. The twenty-third annual meeting of . the Australian Mutual Provident Society was held in Sydney on the 24th April. The report presented showed itbat the year's operations had been attended with extraordinary success. There had been issued during the year 2337 new policies, and the new premiums amounted to £32,733 per annum, assuring £830,904. The gross annual revenue amounts to £249,016, and the credit balance for the year is £146,682. The accumulated funds sow amount to £904,824. DuNEDry, May 9. The Waste Land Board, acting on the Superintendent's suggestion, have given notice that they will cancel the Preservation Inlet coal leases unless they are executed within a week. On the motion of Mr M' Arthur, a Select Committee was appointed to enquire into the value of the Wrey's Bush coalfield. Mr Lumsden has moved that a respectful address be presented to the Superintendent, requesting him to take the necessary steps for a reduction of the upset price of land in Southland.
