DUNEDIN.

Messrs Iters-sra, SiEWiir, and Co. report fo r * the weet ending 13th April : — Fst Cattle. — The stocks in the hands of the trarle being considerable, the number yarded on Wednesday, viz., about 60 head, was in excess of requirements, and hence the greater portion were turned out un.«o'd. The few pens disposed of, Beveral of whi<-h were choice quality, realized from £3 lOa to £6 5s per head, or rquil to from 14s to 17a 6J. per lOOib*. The relapse in value we, however, consider but temporary, consequent ehirfly upon the Isirge number of cattle at present offering by farmers desirous of relieving their pastures before the winter sets in. Fat Sheep: —Only 300 were penned, comprising about 300 fair cross-breds, and the remainder ordinary Merino". The prices obtained ranged from «s 9dto 11s each. We quote prime quality cross-bred mutton, at, full, 2£J per lb ; Merino do, full, 2id. Store Cattle.— -Fo transactions. Store Sheep. — The demand still continues very active, but very few save old or cull ewes are offering, and the business done has been quite unimportant. We have placed 2000 culls at from 2s 3d to 3s 3d each. Young ewes and wethera are simply not obtainable at anything like late quotations. We have placed 60 pure Leicester' ram lauibs at £3 10s each, and have to j note a continuance of the demand for this de- j Bcript ion of stock. . | Station Property. — We nave to record the sale of the Ashwick Station, Canterbury, 62,000 acres . country, with 30,000 sheep, and all improvements, at £23.600 ; also- the Otematata Station, Otago, 65,000 acres, wi'h 26,000 sheep, at £22,400 sterling. On Friday, we sold at auction, Strone ~~T3rfii, Clutha district, comprising 420 acres freehold, at £900 sterling. • | Wool. — No public sales have been held during the week, and. privately very little business has been done, the season being now well over, and only a -limited quantity" remaining for offer. There "is a 'fair demand for light-conditioned greasy wools for America, for which market the bulk of those ou hand are unsuited. Our London agents, Messrs Miles Bros, and Co., under date Bth Februaijj report as follows: — "Since our report of 11th nit., the wool market has been very firm, and several parcels have changed hands at full Nov. rates j and as the Liverpool sales opened with an advance of 2d per lb, it was the general oyinion of the trade that an appreciable advance would take place at the February series. These sales opened this evt ning with a very full attendance of home and foreign buyers. Biddings were spirited, and the prices realised for most descriptions showed a rise of about 2d per lb over those current in November. Trade in the North is Tery healthy, and although an unsettled feeling prevails with regard to the American question, as yet the demand for wool is so active that as far as we can judge at present, we think the rise will be maintained throughout the series, and that the prospects for May are good. " The arrivals to date comprise : — New South Waleß and Queensland,. 14,783 bales; Victoria, 50,109 do; South Australia, 22,730 do: Tasmania, 442 do ; New Zealand, 2617 do j Cape, 22,563 do ;. total, -113,244 do. " New Zealand Hemp. — There is but a small quantity of this fibre in the market, stocks being principally in second hands. A few parcels have been sold privately at very full rates ; buyers, however, are waiting till late arrivals are placed upon the market. At public auction on the 31st nit., about 170 bales hemp, arid 5 tons tow, principally of old import, sold at prices ranging from £28 5s to £36 for hemp, and from £14 103 to £15 10s for tow. "Preserved Meats. — The following quotations are based on a public sale held on the 23rd January. " Mutton, 61bs, s|d to sfd per lb ; do, 4!b3, 6fd to 7d do ; do, 21bs, 7i«l to 7id do. " Beef, 5iJ to sfd per lb j do, 5f 1 do ; do, 7±d 7£d do. " •Supplies continue to come forward pretty Teely, 34,774 cases having been imported between 12th January and sth February. The shipments advised -from Sydney and Melbourne, represent an aggregate of .15,500 cases."
