P.S. — Mr Paterson's survey stopped at; Athol, where Mr Brunton took it up, and carried it on to Kingston. In doing < so I believe Mr B. crossed the Mataura several times in preference to cutting round terraces, and judging from his estimate (published some time ago} of the cost of bridges thus required there ife might be supposed tbafc the two railway bridges on the Oreti would not be quite so expensive as it was generally understood they were to be.
