MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The Town Council held its usual v?eekl_\ meeting; last night. The Mayor and all the Councillors were present. A lengthy correspondence between the M iyor and the Superintendent was rea I res-ardinj the u»(! of the Town Hull by the Council and the officials of the Supreme Court. Notices to remove crossinss from foot-patha. and to substitute others o-f a uniform i/attern, approved of by the Council, were stated to have been sent to seventeen business establis'uaents in town. The report of the Finance Committee was road, recommencing that the engine-house be removed to the Municipal reserve on the north sHe of Don street; that Mr M'Oullo--h, R.M., and Inspector Fox be requested to accept the aop >intment of Fire Inspectors ; and that an offije-boy be employed to aasht \hd Clerk, at ££?> p-;r annu-n. After considerable discuasion, the various suggestions were agreed to. The following report from the Public Works Committee was read : — Ist. Your committee have to report that, having considered Mr Martin's application relative , to the Spey-streot drain, they recomra >nd that tho j sum of £8 be pai 1 to Mr Martin, being defi -iency ■ in subscription list of the cost of drain in Speystreet. 2nd. Recommend that Jod- street be closed during its formation and gravelling, and that the centre of Jed-street (rhe part under contract) be raised by fascines instead of clay, and alao that tenders be called for 500 Manuka fascines, each fascine to be at least 10 feet long. 3rd. Recoraniflnd the Council to take into consideration the making of a drain from Tay to Esk street, through Dee-street, this part of the town being entirely without a drain. Tour committee also think that a drain with clay walls, and timber top, would be a cheap and substantial plan. 4th. Recommend that tenders be called for 5000 feet of timber, for repairs of crossings, also the necessary timber for yard. Clauses 1, 2, and 3 were agreed to, and clause 4 was postponed for the Engineer's report. A fifth clause was added, to the eff ct that the contractor for Jed-strest be allowed to put gravel on the centre of the road without first stacking it. The report wis then adopted as a whole.
