All were, however, cleared off, our prices for 30 head ranging from £4 2a 6d to £7 10s. We quote medium quality beef at 18s, prime do, at 20s per lOOlbs. Fat Sheep — About 300 were penned, and met with a veiy brisk market, - fair cross-breds fetching lla 6d, and very ordinary merinos 8s 6d each. We have placed privately 800 merino ewes and wethers at 2£ i per Ib, i'or immediate delivery ; 300 merino wethers at 9s each ; and we quote really prime cross-bred mutton at 2£d, do do merino at 2£d per lb. Store Cattle — No transactions'. Store Sheep — There is no alteration to note in the position of the market for this class of stock. Enauiry continues very active, while few or no sheep, with the exception of culls, are offering. We have placed 1500 cull ewes, at 3s ; 1000 do, at 3s ; and we have to re-port the sale by Mr Henry Connell, Oamarn, of 2500 full and broken mouthed ewes at 2s to 3s 3d each. We have also placed 60 ram lambs, at £3 ; 60 do, at £2 10s ; 11 aged rams, at £2 ICsj and 130 merino rams and ram lambs, at 153 to 30s each. Wool — There has been a fair private demand during the week ; but pending the arrival of the San Francisco mail, buyers do not appear disposed to operate at any material advance on late quotations. Tbe quantify now remaining; for offer is limited to a few hundred bales, of which we shall submit the greater portion to public auction on Wednesday, 17th inst., if not previously disposed of privately. — Since writing the above, the arrival of the San Francisco mail at Auck'and has been telegraphed. The reports by this mail from the London market are scarcely so pronounced as those received via Suez, the advance during the first week of the February sales being roundly stated at 10 per cent, upon the closing rate 3in December. From JVew York the advices are of the most favorable nature, Bales of Australian wools, ex Frances Milly, having been effected at 60 to 62 i cents ; while some parcels were being held icr 70 cents — prices which cannot fail to leave a handsoms return to the shippers. The Evening Star of the 6th inst. reports : — Trade wants in flour are supplied by the town millers at £11 15s to £12. Stocks are light and at present there exists a good and steady demand. Inferior kinds have been quitted chiefly for shipment at £8 10s to £9. Bran is plentiful. Trade lots at £2 15s ; . parcels, £2 10s. For pollard the requirements are beyond what is available from the town mills ; the quotation is £3 15s. Oatinea!, £13. Pearl barley, firmer, £17 103. The millers are just now well supplied with wheat. We believe that the market value is 4s 9d, but at tbe existing price for flour either the price of wheat will become easier or flour will have to be raised. Oats have cbanged hands in large quantities ; the value of best milling is 2s, feeding from Is 9d to 23. Malting barley finds purchasers at 4s 6d to 4s 9J ; inferior kinds are saleable at 2s. Provincial potatoes are wanted at £4 ; of Australian the market is full ; good samples brought £3 ; straw, £2 ss ; hay, £3 10s ; chaff, £3 10s. Ketail prices — Fresh butter, in Jib and lib prints, best quality, Is per lb ; second quality, lOd per lb ; fresh butter, in lumps* lOd per lb ; powdered und salted butter, lOd per lb j new salt butter, in kegs, 9J. Butter at present is very plentiful, but the demand- is not equal to the supply ; and storekeepers have. been salting down large quantities, a rather unprofitable step, as the retail price for salt butter ia ve>y little in advance of the price they arepaying lor fresh. In the cheese market the prices n-main the same. Best qualiiy is fiom 6d to 8d per lb ; second quality, 6d per lb. Side and rolled bacon, smoked or otherwise, 9i to lOd per lb best quality ; second quality, 6d to 8d per lb. Colonial hams, Is per lb. English hams and cheese are unsaleable, at Is 3d to Is 4d per lb. Kggs have been very Bcarce this week, and prices range from Is 91 to 2s per dozen.
