In the eighth set, rapidity, Carter, Wellington, was Ist, 52 ;' Marshall, Otago, 2nd, 39 ; Christie, 3rd, 3? ; Buchanan, Otago, 4th, 38 ; Churton, Wanganui, sth, 37 ; Duncan, Wanganui, 6th, 37 ; Curtis, Taranaki, 7th, 36 ; Moore, Wilson, Taylor and Todd tied at 35 for Bth, and will £re off to-morrow. The protest against Carter was disallowed, although Col. Harrington stated that the staff had no moral doubt that Carter had not made the 13 hits shown on his target, but as there was * no direct proof, he was evidently obliged to give it to him. This match decided THE CHAMPIONSHIP, . the ten highest scorers for which are : — Wales (Otago) champion 320 Carter (Wellington) 314 Hoskins (Auckland) 306 Taylor (Otago) 301 Muir (0tag0).... 300 Gray (Wellington) .... 298 Cowie (Otago) 297 Kelly (Constabulary) 296 Philpotts (Marlborough) 290 Humphries (Taranaki) 290 Wales was warmly cheered, and congratulated on his splendid shooting.
