DUNEDIN.
Messrs Deiveb, Stewabt, and Co. report for the week ending 30th March : — Fat Cattle. — Forty head good to prime quality •were yarded, and as stocks on hand were comparatively li^ht, there was fair competition, and full rates were realised. We sold 20 head light weights, but in fine condition, at from £4 10s to £6 12s 6d. Our quotations are — Prime quality, 20b to 22a per lOOlbs ; medium, 18s. Fat Sheep. — About 500 were penned, and disposed of at from 5s 9d for inferior merinos, up to 11s 6d for good half-breds. The market is •without material altera'ion, and contracts for forward delivery, say— rApril and May — rare now being entered into at quotations ; but we anticipate that the present high value of wool will prevent such numbers of sheep being offered as has hitherto been usual in the autumn, and hence that during the winter and spring months very full rates will be obtainable. Present market values are — prime cross-bred mutton, 2£d ; merino do, 2d per Ib. Store Cattle. — No transactions. Store Sheep. — The demand during the past •week has been almost unprecedented, but as there are very few sellers at the present moment the business done has not been proportionate. For ewes and wethers, mixed age 3, prices considerably in advance of rates lately reported are now obtainable, but with the exception of sales of a few lots of oil sheep, no trans lotions have transpired upon which w« should be justified in basing enhanced quotations. Wool. — Two public sales have been held during the week. On Wednesday we submitted a catalogue of 637 bales, chiefly heavy-conditioned greasy clips. Owing, probably, to the absence of definite advices regarding the recently reported rise at the opening of the February sales, buyers were apparently disinclined to concede any advance, and the competition was not so spirited as we expected, while in many instances growers' limits were such as to preclude the possibility of businees*being done ; hence the quantity dispos d of at auction was comparatively limited. Privately, however, .since the sale, there has been a fair demand, and we have placed a number of parcels at full rates. We annex priced catalogue of transactions during the week : — " Greasy.— D and A MD, 1 bale lock*, 6d ; S Bud F, Ido mixed, ll£d ; Waikaka, l do fleece, 13|d ; .
