COMMERCIAL.
DUNEDIN. Messrs Dhiveb, Stewart, and Co., Dunelin, N. Z., report for the week ending 9th March : — Fat Cattle. —Only 33 head were yarded, and although the quality was g-'od, late prices were scarcely maintained ; the trade being pretty well supplied, bought very cautiously. We think, however, that prime beef will realise 20s per lOOlbs ; ordinary, 15s to 17s 6d. We have sold by auction and privately 40 head at quotations. Fat Sheep. — About 480 sheep were penned, ■which were all sold at a considerable advance on last quotations, as most of the trade were short Bupplied. A few pure Leicester ewes brought 32s 6d each, and do wethers, 22s 6d ; cross- breds, 9s 6d to 10s -, fat ewes, 5s 3d to 7s. We have sold by auction and privately 55 cross-breds, in wcol, at los 6d ; 600 do, shorn, at 9s to 10s ; 900 merino wethers, at 2d per lb ; and a few old ewes, at 5s 3d to 5s 6d each. Btore Cattle are very dull of sale, except for well-grown cattle, which are in fair demand at from 50s to 60s. store Sheep. — We have to note a continued demand for stores of every class, with but few lots offering. We have sold 1500 full-mouthed wethers at 4s, and 1500 full-mouthed ewes at 3s ; 400 cross-breds, at 6b 3d ; 2000 cross-bred lambs, at 6s ; 100 Leicester ram lambs, at 425. Our quotations for good sheep are as follows :— 2 and 4 tooih eross-breds, 6s 3d to 6s 6d ; do lambs, 53 6d to 6s; merino wethers, 4 and 6 tooth, 4a 6i to 4s 91 ; do ewes, 4 a.nd 6 tooth, 4s 6d ; do, full-mouthed, 3a to 3s 3d j do lambs, 4s each. Station Properties. — We are pleased to be able to report an improving demand for this class of investment, and have no doubt but that any properties offering will find ready sale at full values. Wool. — No pubic sales have been held during the week. The demand privately, has, however, been active ; but although wo have had a large quantity under offer, very little business has resulted, owners' expectations" beins some■what beyond actual market valueß. We shall offer about 750 bales by auction on 13th iust. In our next we purpose giving a resume of operations during the season, with the quantity sold and exported to date, and their destination. Sheepskins. — There is no alteration to note •with regard to these, the demand continuing brisk, and full prices beiug obtainable for all lots offered.
The Oamaru Times of the Bth inst. reports : — The market is now fairly supplied with new grain, and considerable transactions have taken place. For prime sample of wheat 4s is still obtainable ; good enquiry. Oats rule at Is lOd for best milling ; leetl oats in little or no demand, samples offering, light and poor, and quite unfit for shipment. For barley there is a spirited enquiry, buyers offering 3s 6J for prime, but sellers decline to accept this figure, and are holding for a rise. Flour, £12 to £12 10a. Oatmeal, £14. Pollard, £4. Bran, £3.
