THE Annnal Meeting of the Subscribers to the Southland Provincial Hospital, for the election of committee and office-bearers for the ensuing year, will be holden at the Council Hall, in E>lvin-street, on Tuesday, March 26t.h, at eight o'clock in the evening. A SPECIAL MEETING of Subscribers to the r\ Atheneeum will be held at the Rooms of the Institution on Friday evening next, 22nd inst., at 7 o'clock, p.m., to consider " the desirability of amending Rule 3, relative to filling up vacancies arising in committee, and also of amending Rule fi, relating to the constitution of a quorum. AGEICULTUEAL STATISTICS. TO Enable the Superintendent Collector to prepare a Correct Return of the Agricultural Statistics, it is requested that any Occupier or Cultivator of Land who may have been accidentally omitted by the Collectors, will be good enough to communicate with the undersigned immediately. J. SPERREY, Superintendent Collector. Dunedin, 29th February, 1872. . — — ■ — • BYE-LAWS passed by the Wardens of the Invercargill Hundreds, and sanctioned by the Waste Land Board. 1. No Sheep shall be depastured on any unenclosed land within the Hundreds. 2. No Entire Horse over 12 months old, and no Bull over 6 months old shall be depastured without special permission of the Wardens, and no BuJ shall be at large for a longer period than three years. 3. AH License-holders shall, on or before the Ist day of April, 1872, register with the nearest Warden a statement of the number of cattle and horses depastured by them on the unenclosed lands within the Hundreds, with their brands. 4. Before removing or slaughtering cattle, ownerß shall give notice in writing to the nearesc Warden. 5. Any person about to bring cattle on the run, shall, one week before so doing, furnish to the nearest Warden, in writing, such information as shall give opportunity for inspection. 6. No person shall be allowed to depasture on lands under the jurisdiction of the Wardens, more than one head of cattle for every 10 ecres of land owned or occupied by him within the hundred. 7. All stray cattle may be impounded. 8. The penalty for any breach of the foregoing bye-laws shall be any sum not exceeding £5, to be recovered in a summary manner, in accordance with 45th Clause of the Southland Waste Lands Act, 1865. Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, 3rd February, 1872. rN compliance with the recommendation contained in the Report of the Joint Committee on Colonial Industries, 1871, to the effect that a bonus of £2,500 should be offered for the first 100 tons of Printing Paper produced by machinery, such bonus to be in addition to any that may be offered by any Province, it is hereby notified that such reward will be paid on the fulfilment of the following Conditions. The Paper to be manufactured in New Zealand by machinery permanently established and working in the Colony. The required quantity to be completed before the 30th June, 1873. The weight of each ream of Printing Paper to be not less than 30 lbs. The reward will be paid on the certificate of an officer to be appointed by the Government hat the above conditions have been complied with. W. Gisboene. IN compliance with recommendations contained in the Reports of the Flax Commission Committee, and of the Joint Committee on Colonial Industries, to the effect that " premiums not exceeding in the whole £500 should be granted for the encouragement of Sericiculture in the Colony," and that the development of certain industrial pursuits would often be best promoted by the offer of a bonus on production, the following Rewards are offered, subject to the under- mentioned conditions: — A bonus of 50 per cent, on the value realized is offered for the production of the first £1,000 worth of cocoons of the Silkworm or eggs of the Silkworm produced in the Colony, to be paid on quantities of not less value than £50, or more than £100 produced by any one person. To any person or persons who shall manufacture within the Colony, from New Zealand flax — For the first 500 reams of Printing Paper, a sum of £400 ; and " further sum of £250 for the first 500 reams of Packing Paper ; and the like sum for the first 10,000 yards of Scrim-cloth suitable for covering flax bales. Conditions. The required quantity of each article to be ompleted before the 30th June, 1872. The weight of each ream of printin paper to be not less than 30 lbs., of each ream of packing paper not lies than 40 lbs., and of each piece of scrim-cloth of 100 yards in length and double width, not less than 30 lbs. The rewards will be paid on the certificate of an officer to be appointed by the Government that the above conditions have been complied with. W. Gisboene.
