MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The Council met last night. Present — The Mayor, and Councillors Pratt, Blackwood, Goodwillie, Garthwaite, and Eoss. After some routine business had been transacted, a report was read and referred to the Public Works Committee, stating that the Mayor had visited Greenhills, ) where the large deposits of crushed metal were at one time placed. The report stated that a quantity estimated at about 200 yards could be obtained, which would have to be taken to the railway line and deposited in heaps, and then wheeled into the trucks, the probable cost being 6s per yard. It would be necessary to lay down a siding to the quarry, the estimated cost beiug — ■ For 50 second-class aleepera and one or two long timbers, about ... £5 0 0 Necessary labor ... 6 8 0 Total £11 8 0 Eor the assistance given by the railway authorities, the clerk was instructed to convey the thanks of the Council. } The question of the Dee-street footpath repair, stated to require a larger outlay than was at first expected, was referred back to the Public Works Committee.
