THE OTERAMIKA ROAD BOARD AND THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY.

Sik, — Observing in your issue of 24th inst. a paragraph relating to the " Oteramika Eoad Board," I cannot allow your statements to pass without correction, as you have evidently been misinformed in the main points of the case. Firstly, the Board did not pay into the Bank the amount of the collected rates, but into the Provincial Treasury ; secondly, the I Provincial Government have subsidized to the full extent the amount of the rates collected (which was all that could be expected from them) ; and, thirdly, the amounts due the contractors are ready for them. I may also mention that it is some time before the money can bo sent from Dunedin, and the only call for the contractors to be at all " clamorous " is the question of time in remitting the cash from Dunedin. I have made the above remarks in justice to the Provincial Government, as they have fulfilled all they engaged to do. —Yours, &c, R. Stewart, Clerk Oteramika Koad Board. Edendale, 28 bh February, 1872,
