G. F. Martin and Co. report : — The sale of horses on Saturday, the 24th inst., attracted a large attendance. The draft from Oaklands, Mataura, consisting of 18 unbroken colts and fillies, were all quitted at from £11 10s to £3, the average being £<3.per head. We sold the racehorse Ben Nevis for £30, also New Chum at £15. Maniototo and Firetail were withdrawn in consequence of a private match being made •while the former was under the hammer, but we have since disposed of Maniototo privately at £50. In cattle we have no transactions to report, but have considerable enquiry for store steers and spayed cows. Store sheep continue firm, and we quote 2, 4, and 6 tooth merino wethers at from 4s 9d to 5s ; fullmouthed do, 4s 3d. In gram there is little alteration. We have ■old one superior parcel of 700 bushels wheat at ss, which may be taken as a fair quotation. Oats are worth Is 8d j barley, 3s to 3s 3d, according to quality. Invercargill, 26th Feb. 1872.
