MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present — Councillors Pratt (in the chair), Lumsden, Blackwood, Goodwillie, Tapper, and Garthwaite. Correspondence was read from the Town Surveyor relative to the davits on the Jetty, and from the Fire-engine Keeper, agreeing to continue the duties of engine-keeper, but pointing out that he had failed to see that the Council offered any increase of salary, as they had added to his duties that of keeping an outside lamp, which required attendance twice daily. It was resolved to refer the letter to the committee. A report from the Public Works Committee was read. It recommended that Dereron street, from Esk to Gala streets, Esk street from Deveron to Jed streets, part of Spey street, at the gully between Kelvin and Deveroa streets, and part of Kelvin street, between Don and Spey streets, be formed as soon as possible, and the centre part of Deveron street receive a coating of gravel j also that there being several crossings the repair of which is not yet provided for by any deposit of gravel, that power be given to the Committee to order the necessary repairs to be made. The report was received and adopted. It was agreed to request the Superintendent to number the block fronting Tay street, shortly to be sold, as No. 75 ; and the Council, under the authority of the Corporation Act declared a street, 40 feet wide, to be called Wood street, through the reserve between the creek and the new block. Conditions of sale having been agreed upon, the Town Clerk was instructed to copy them for Mr Macdonald's approval. The Council thereafter adjourned. The Council met again last evening;, all the members being present, excepting Or. .Taggers. The following letter from the Town Clerk was read — I beg to submit the valuation of the town &3 prepared by me for the approval of the Town Council. I have delivered to the persona primarily liable for the payment of rates, or their agents, or posted to their address, the necessary notices of valuation. The number of properties valued ia 1260 ; the gross annual value £10,626, ranging in amount from £170 to ss. ] t was resolved to go into committee to consider the subject, the result .being the allowance of the valuation . __________^_^_.__«
