m ■ - Before Henrt M'Citlloch, Esq., "ELM. Wednesday, February 14th. civil case. Connor t. Cuthbertson Bros.— Wages oUim, amounting to £6, and for work and labor done per separate contract, £4. The latter item wu admitted, and the amount paid into Court. Mr Wale for plaintiff, and Mr Macdonald for defendants. Plaintiff was engaged as a general station hand at 30a per week and found. After having earned the amount sued for, a dispute arose between the parties in reference to the yarding of s flock of sheep. An altercation ensued, which resulted in defendants ordering plaintiff to leave their employment. On applying subsequently for payment of his wages, defendants offered pay* mont on condition that a written apology was tendered by plaintiff for the aLege.i dereliction of duty. This condition was declined. After evidence had been led, the Magistrate gave judgment for the amount claimed with costs. Thursday, Fbb. 15. Bradley v. Wells. — This was an adjourned case of assault arising out of a squabble between a party of women. Mr Wade for the defence. The Court found the assault proven, and after commenting on the conduct of the parties, fined defendant 20s and costs. Clark v. Trotter. — The plaintiff, a domestic servant, sought to recover £20 damages alleged to have been sustained by her in respect of the loss of six months' wages, together with a farther sum of £2 3s, expenses ia coming down to lavercargill. The defeuce was that she had been discharged for disobedience of orders and general misconduct. Mr Wade tor plaintiff, and Mr Macdonald for defendant. Plaintiff was hired as a general servant in Dunedin for a period of six months at the sum of £40 per annum. She arrived in Invercargill, and entered upon her engagement on the 15th of November. A series of disputes arose, which resulted in defendant's wife discharging plaintiff on the 23rd December. After evidence had been led, the Bench sus« tamed the defence, and gave judgment for defendant with costs.
