Messrs Driver, Stewart and Co. report for week ending 10th February, as follows : — Fat Cattle. — There was again a short supply of cattle forward, only 35 head being yarded, which were all disposed of at about our quotation. "We have sold for forward delivery about 50 head. ■ "We quote prime beef saleable at 20s per lOOlbs. Fat Sheep'. — 675 wethers of medium quality were JfennTd, and sold at from 6s to 63 9d, and a few- "bid ewes at 5a 9J. Really good quality sheep are not plentiful, and we have been able to effect sales at 2d per Ib. , which may be taken as present market value. Store Cattle. — We have sold a few head at 40s to 45s for mixed ages and sexes, and 80s for good-conditioaed steers. We have no large transactions to report. Store Sheep. — An excellent demand continues for wethers — either 2- too h, or 2, 4, and 6-tooth — at 4s 6d, or ewes, 4 and 6- tooth, at 4s to 4s 3d ; also for cross-bred lambs at 4s 6d to 5s 6d, according to quality, and.. 2-tooth and upwards 6a to 6s 6d. We have sold several small lots' at these prices ; but the number offering is but limited, which, however, we expect to see con- ■ iiderably augmented as t"he season advances. Station Property. — We have no further sales • to report, but there is a healthy enquiry for desirable-properties, with one or two transactions pending. Wool. — Two public sdes were held during the ( week.- The catalogues comprised about 900 ; * bales, of which about 400 changed hands. For well-conditioned greasy and washed, wools in • • quantity suitable for shipment, the demand was • active/ : and last week the quotations were fully j 'maintained ;' but for mixed and odd lots compe---titibir was less brisk, and the prices offered#a shade easier. The public telegrams to hand via '"Ban •Francisco fully confirm the reports by 'Hast mail as 'to the very sound and healthy •" ; *pbßition : of -tbe-home market, and private advices by the : same* route are of a still more encouraging nature. ' We helcLour usual public sale of wool an j skins- on the 12th. There was a fair attendance of buyers, and the bidding was spirited throughout the sale — late prices being fully maintained.
We offered about 800 bales wool and 2000 sheepskins, catalogued into 105 lots, all of which (with the exception of one or two lots held over for instructions) were sold at prices satisfactory to owners. The following is the range of prices viz. : — Greasy merino, B£i to 14£ d ; do, crossbred, 13£ d to lf^d; washed merino, lSd to 20|d ; do, crossbred, 18|d to 20£J ; greasy locks, 4£dto 7fd ; do pieces, B£d to 12£J ; washed locks, lOd to. 12d ; do pieces, 12d to 13Jd.-i- There was a very spirited demand for sheepskins, and every lot Bold at advanced rates. The following are the particulars :—2 bales, F triangle, 9|d per lb ; 14 bdls, LO, 9|d do; 6 do, do, 7id do ; 1 do pelts, do, 3d do ; 8 do, WB, lo£d do ; 3 do, do, 8d do ; 4 do, O, Is do ; quantity pelts, B,lfd do; do skins, do, 9f 3 ; 4 bdls, MM, 9fl do ; 1 do, D, 9*d do ; 16 skins, AA, 10£ ddo ; 1 bdl, AC, 7|d; 1 do, G, llfd do.
