H. E. Osborne, auctioneer, reports : — Business during the month has been quiet, but there is an increasing demand for freehold property in town and country. I have several large transactions pending, both privately and by auction. The class of country property most in demand is sections of good land in the suburbs, an easy distance from town, and on the lines of railway, varying in size from 100 to 500 acres, either improved or otherwise. Improvements are not so much a consideration as the quality of the land for permanent, pasture. The very low price of mixed cattle, and the continued demand for sheep, have improved the enquiry for grass land 5 and the present very dry season has raised the neglected swamp in public favor. Town sections, improved and unimproved, in choice localities are rising in value, and cottage properties are scarce. The following sections have changed bands, viz., sections 35 and 36, block 2, Invercargill Hundred, 107 acres, £115 ; section 15, block 60, £100, and section 5, block 60, £30, town oi Invercargill. Grain. — The late advices from other provinces and our country districts have made oats a little firmer. I sold a small parcel at 2s per bushel. The sale of household furniture at Appleby on the 10th inst. was well attended, and the prices obtained satisfactory. Invercargill, February 12th, 1872.
