Mrlsitt, of Balclutha, preached morning and evening to crowded audiences. In the afternoon the children were catechised, and prizes awarded to the more meritorious of their number. Messrs Isitt, fiishworth, and other gentlemen. After the comestible arrangements had been disposed of, the secretary read and submitted, the annual report, which stated that despite the general depression of the town, the school had during the year increased in numbers. That wibh the view of providing further accommodation, it had been resolved by the committee of management that the school-room should be removed to the church, so as to enable additional classes to be formed in the church building. It was further urged in favor of the proposal that the school would increase in numbers, and that the school room could then be used for the week evening services. The position of the school, as compared with the previous ' year, was stated to be as follows : — At present 192 scholars were on the roll, viz., 91 boys and 101 girls. Last year there were 162 — 84 boys and 78 girls, showing an increase of 30. The average attendance in the morning was 32, in the afternoon 105, both attendances showing an increase over those of the previous year. The children were under the tuition of ten male and seven female teachers. At present each class was felt to be too large for proper instruction being imparted, and those fayorable to the cause were invited to come forward and take part in the work. The financial position of the institution was reported to be in a satis- | factory condition, the balance in hand I being £9 10s Id. During the year £14 5s 5d had been expended. The library contained 217 volumes, with the ' prospect of a speedy increase. j The report was adopted with acclama- J tiops, after which suitable addresses were delivered by the Eev. Messrs Kishworth, Isitt, and other gentlemen. A number of hymns and anthems were sung during the evening ; the proceedings being brought to a close by votes of thanks awarded to various parties who were instrumental in contributing to the success of the meeting.
