CUSTOMS RETURNS.
The following has been collected as Customs Re venae during the week ending the 3rd inat: —
D. MICSOBIE, auctioneer, reports : — No reaction was risible in the horse market on Saturday, only 3 lots changing hands at £5, £10, and £18 respectively, and even the dealers seem averse to speculation. Should, however, the railway works be pushed on at once, we may look for increased animation in draught stock. The demand for sheep continues unsatisfied, the relationship between vendor and purchaser as regards rates being unsatisfactory. Some buyers have been holding off in expectation of a large sale of half-breds about the Ist prox. These arrangements have, however, been altered, and but few of the lot referred to will be in the market. It is reported that the local preserving company*! rates are to be increased to those offered by the company at Green Island ; if so, it may be anticipated that prices for cattle will receive » corresponding impetus. Some little attention is shown to the export of oats at from le BJd to Is 9d. I sold a parcel for shipment at 1b lOd, delivered in town, but prime middling may be quoted higher than the former quotation. The Canterbury cheese I am offerine: continues in fair demand at 5d per lb, and will soon be cleared. Invercargill, sth February, 1872.
