MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The usual weekly meeting was held last night. Present — The Mayor (Mr Wood), and Councillors Goodwillie, J aggers, Lumsden, Pratt, Blackwood, and G-arthwaite.

The appointment of Mr E. Rogers as valuator was cancelled, and the Town Clerk, Mr Scandrett, was appointed as valuator. On the motion of Councillor lumsden, the application of the lessees of the Jetty for the erection of a weighing machine was declined.

It was agreed that tenders for the repair of the Jetty, in accordance with the surveyor's specification, should be called for.

The application of Mr Jabez Hay for liberty to erect a weighing machine in Tay-street was granted, on the express condition that it was so granted without prejudice, and subject to any action the Council might take under the powers possessed by it ; the work to be executed under inspection of the Town Surveyor.

On the motion of Councillor Pratt, the Town Clerk's salary was fixed at £150 per annum, and the remuneration to be paid to the valuator at £3 3a.

After some further business had been transacted, the meeting adjourned at 11 p.m.
