MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The Council met last night. The Mayor and all the councillors were present. -^ ' An application from Mr Jabez Hay, to bo allowed to erect a weigh -bridge in Tay-street was postponed for one week. A report from the Reserves Committee, recommending that the Government should be asked to include in any Ordinance or Ordinances about to be prepared, provision for vesting the reserves in the Corporation, was read and adopted. The Town Clerk reported, in accordance with a resolution passed at last meeting, that the two workmen had been engaged since their employment in November last, making survey pegs and driving same for future reference, and attending upon the engineer when required ; erecting new hand-rails and stays at Connon street foot bridge ; clearing out about five chains of drain in Tyno street ,• cutting new drain in Nith street, five chains long, and from one to fiye feet deep ; trimming Kelvin street from Fay to Don street ; do Esk street from Kelvin to Deveron Btreet; do Deveron street from Esk to Don Btreet ; do Don street from Dee street to near Jed street ; forming Spey street jfrom Dee to Kelvin streets ; also from Kelvin street to Don street. They had also been engaged spreading gravel around tho fire wells, and at present they were engaged making up the footpath in Esk street with gravel, and repairing the crossings as their w->rk proceeded. The cemetery committee reported that they ' had inspected the cemetery, and found the fence to be in such a bad .condition that it was necetsary to get it repaired at once. The probable eosfc was estimated at £95" ss. It would also be necessary to have an accurate survey taken of the boundaries of the landi which was estimated to cost £5 ss. They found from the books of the late clerk to the cemetery, that a sum of £100 10s Gd was held by him,. and recommended that an application should be made to the Government for that sum to be applied as above. The report further recommended that if the Council was not in a position to make provision for reconstructing the' wh6le~6'f*the'femje," the extent of ground enclosed should be- reduced, and the committee undertook to "report "at a future dat» what reduction of expenditure could be made by that means and by temporary repaired After a lengthened discussion, it was agreed to adopt the alternative suggestion of the report. At 10 p.m. the Council went into committee ou the town valuation.
