The Australian freighting business is dull. The volume of trade continues at a fair average, though shrinking a little as the season actively draws to a close. Kerosene is firmer at 30 cents. Dried apples and lobsters scarce ; apples, lie. to 14c. ; lobsters 2 dols. per doz. ; oysters in good supply at 1 dol. 10c. per doz. Lumber is steady. Tobacco is in fair demand. The stock of old is getting scarce, and prices are firm. Wool is quiet ; sales have been effected of 500 bales Australian at prices withheld. At Boston 289,000 pounds of Australian sold at 5,360 (?) cents. Tallow is quiet but firm. Max is quiet. Sales of 50 tons have been made on private terms. It is quoted at from 9 to 9| cents, per pound, bales of 1240 bales fine have been made at from £30 to £34 ; ordinary to fair £22 to £29. London, Dec. 11. There is an improved tone in the markets, and prices are firmer. "Wool is very firm, pending the next aeries of sales. Sales of Australian cotton have been made at from 9|d to 9£d. Elax is steady.

tallow firm ; there is a decline of 1b on Australian ; sheep, 493, and beef 47s 3d. Latest Quotations. — The markets with few exceptions are less active. Tallow is quiet but firm. The Directors of the Otago and Southland Investment Company have declared an interim dividend for the half year~ of 10 per cent.
