ADJOURNED MEETINGS.
Adjourned meetings took place on Monday and "Wednesday. At the former the chairman reported that in compliance with a resolution passed at the previous meeting, he had communicated by telegraph with Mr Yogel, likewise with the General Government. The only reply received was from Mr Yogel,, which was read as follows : Mr Moorehouse, Begistrar under the Act, will be here this evening, and on Monday I will communicate with him on the subject of your tele-* gram, and let yon know the result. Mr "Watson spoke strongly in favor of a deputation being despatched to Dunedin to urge the views of the Chamber personally on the attention of the Colonial Treasurer. This suggestion was not, however, adopted, and a further communication with Mr Yogel, indicating the manifest injustice it would be to the district if included within that of Dunedin, agreed to. It was also agreed that a communication should be forwarded to Mr Macandrew, requesting his co-operation on behalf of the district. At the meeting held on Wednesday, a second communication was read from Mr Yogel, to the following effect:— I believe I shall leave by Friday, but I am not certain. I think the application should be made through the' Superintendent, as the department witt be provincially charged. Mr Moorehouse is here, but oannot visit InvercargilL Perhaps it would be better to allow the office in Donedin to be started first. The details are numerous, and require great care hi their adjustment. I only throw this oat m a suggestion. I may add that the Colonial Secretary presides over the department. A long discussion ensued respecting the propriety of a deputation being sent to Dunedin to have a personal; interview with Messrs Yogel and Moorehouse ; the deputation to consist of Messrs Calder and Macdonald. Both gentlemen stated
f that if the Chamber decided that 'such a 1 step was necessary, they would not object f to undertake the mission, but Mr Calder p was strongly inclined to believe that Mr i Macandrew's co-operation would be f readily given, and that the deputation ) would be unnecessary. Ultimately, the question was submitted in the form of a i resolution affirming the desirability of the > deputation being despatched at once, ) which, after being put to the meeting, . was declared to have been carried. The L resolution further provided for the expenses of the deputation being defrayed ; by the Chamber. The meeting then ad- , journed. ■
