MR. IR VINE'S MEETING.
■ ■ *• ■ (TO THB EDITOB OJ? THB TIMES.) Sib, — Allow me to bear testimony to the general correctness of the report which has been furnished by you in this day's Times of the address which I delivered to tbe electors of Invercargill on Tuesday evening last, at the Theatre Eoyal. At the same time permit me to remind those who were not present at the meeting, tbat a report, no matter how faithful ia itself, is still nevertheless only a report, and as such necessarily incomplete and eliptical in its details of tbe various arguments advanced, and the facts and statistics, &c, adduced in support of them. — 1 am, &c, Chas. D. Iryixe. P.S. — The report has not been quite correct in representing me to have said "that I "was an Irishman, belonging to a amily possessing hereditary claims to landed estate." What I did say was to the effect that I was a member of a leading country family at home which has inherited for generations extensive landed estates in the north of Ireland • and I said this to show that although I advocated an intellectual, Christian, universal Bepublicanism, I was .opposed by my yery nature and descent to what is known as "Bed Eepublicanism," and that I detest aB much as I despise the grovelling Plutocracy of the present day which strives to exalt the things that a man has above the man himself. Invercargill, Nov. 25th, 1870.
