The ship Chile, from London, anchored at the Heads at 4 p.m. on the 17th. She left the docks on the 3rd of August, and Gravesend the same day. Loßt sight of the English coast on the Bth, and experienced light winds to the Equator, which was reached on the 16th of Sept., in lon. 17 ° 10' west ; had very good S.E. trade winds as far •oath as the island of Trinidad, which was sighted on the 24th of Sept. ; passed the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope on the 13th of Oct., in lat. 42° 10' south. On the 19th of Oct., in lat. 48* 55' south, lod. 41° 11' east, passed three icebergs, two estimated at about 500ft. high and half-a-mile in length, and distant about 3 miles from the ship. On Oct.- 22, in lat 47 ° 32' south, lon. 52° 10' east, encountered a very severe gale from the N.W. On the 27th, a gale even more severe was encountered, which commenced to blow from the S.E., but shifted round to the N.W., and lasted for 24 hours, blowing with great fury, and creating a tremendous sea. During the gale, two quarter-boats were washed away, and part of the bulwarks and stanchions on both sides, besides causing other damage about the deck. After this, very unsettled weather was experienced to the Solander, which was sighted at 5 a.m. on the 17th inst. From thence had fresh S.W. winds with hail showers, and anchored at the Heads as above stated, after a passage from port to port of 106 days. She was brought up and berthed at the wharf yesterday morning, and was to commence to discharge through the day. The S.S. Tararua left Port Chalmers at 5 p.m. on the 18th, and experienced strong winds on the passage up, arriving at the wharf at 9 a.m. the following day, and sailing for Melbourne at noon the same day. %
