RIVERTON.

■ ■» (vn&is. ottb. own coxkespchstdent.) November 18,1870. On Monday, the 14th inst., Eiverfcon was subjected to one of those intensely hot and violent winds so prevalent at this time of the year. It blew from the north. Qardead have suffered severely ; not only were gooseberries blown off, but parts of the trees were broken off and blown away. A plot of potatoes in my own garden, about a foot high, were not only scorched and broken off, but even the drills were all blown level again. Much damage has also been done at South Kiverton. • T. Daniel, Esq., has been on a visit to the miners of Orepuki, to return into their hands the trust they committed to him as their representative. He reports the face of the workings as being very extensive, and capable of affording work for hundreds more miners could water be procured. It appears that although not able to work full time, od account of shortness of water, the miners are yet making good wages. On the 12th inst., the son of Mr Lee, of South Riverton, a lad about eleven years of age, was instructed to make a fire, when it is supposed he thought to expedite the process by sprinkling some powder from a flask, containing half-a---pound. As was to be expected, an explosion took place, which scorched the lad and cut his hand very severely, but fortunately without inflicting any dangerous injury. Another accident occurred on the 14th, when the son of J. W. Matthews, Esq., fell backwards into a pot of boiling water, which had just been taken off the fire. The child was severely scalded from the shoulders to the knees.
