The Argus ol the 7th inst. reports : — Nothing has transpired to-day in mercantile circles of the slightest interest ; trade has been quiet and without animation, the few unimportant sales effected having been confined to supplying immediate wants. Breadstuff's continue to show an aspect of great firmness. Flour is well held, tmd even offers of £12 15s for ordinary brands nave been refused ; as much as £13 is readily obtained for best brands. Of maize, the market is getting very bare, only a few hundred bags having come forward by the steamer ; 4s 5d to 4s 6d is obtained for any lots disposed of Kerosene oil maintains the advance lately, established ; for a parcel of 500 cases Oriental as much as 2s Id was realised. For Devoe's 2s lid to 2s 2d is wanted. In cornsacks inquiries come under our notice, which evince a disposition to purchase freely at 12s 3d. Currants are asked for, and for prime samples buyers are compelled to pay 6£d. The banks this, month have reduced j the rates of exchange. We are enabled to quote for the present mall \\ per cent, premium for 60 days' sight bank drafts ou London, 2 per cent, j for 30 days' sight, and 2>\ per cent, on demand.
