Galle, Oct. 4. Captain Gilmore will wait till next mail. There is great improbability of England being embroiled in the FrancoPrussian war. Subscriptions are being raised throughout India,. Ceylon, and the East, for the relief of the wounded of both sides, and the widows and orphans. Passenger steamers have arrived at Colombo and Galle from Liverpool and London via the Suez Canal in 27 and 31 days, affording comfortable passages at half the usual rates. Itis rumored tbat there will be a temporary discontinuance of the French mail steamers. Steamers conveying the Singapore cable and the staff have passed through : the canal. There is an interruption in the Bed Sea cable. Bombay, Sept. 28. The temporary panic at Allahabad subsided on tbe reinforcement of European troops arriving. The natives manifest great interest in the European war. This city is anticipating heavy losses on the large arrivals of cotton at home this time. There is a great falling-off in shipments of metals to Bombay. Steamers are to run from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean via Suez. A leading native merchant at Bombay has been sentenced to three years' imprisonment for fraud by means of false bills of lading. CHINA AND JAPAN. There is no settlement of the affair at Tien Tsin. The Chinese are preparing for war. They are buying arms and massing troops.
