MELBOURNE.
The Telegraph of the 22nd ult. reports : — The market for breadstuffs has been singu'arly dull to-day, and as far as our information has gone, we think that it would be difficult to obtain more than £12 for ordinary makes of flour. Wheat has been in but small demand, and prices are merely nominal. Maize- is tolerably firm at 4s 2d to 4s 3d., stocks being only moderate. Oats are still quoted at from 3s 6d to 3s Bd, but there is not much business doing just now in thi3 cereal. Bran ia worth Is Id. A sale was held to-day of vines and spirits. Martell's and Hennessy's brandies realised from 6s 6d to 8s 3d, according to the vintage, and about 130 quarters and 25 hhdawere disposed of. Ordinary sherry was quitted at £27 10s per butt, in bond ; and medium at £39 10s.. Red wine was sold at £17 5s per pipe. Some pig brand stout was knocked down at 9s 3d for quarts, and 6s 6d for pints. On the whole, a much better feeling was evinced for this description of merchandise.
