(raOM OFR OWN CORRESPONPEKTT.) 4 October 6, 1870. '■.-■■ '• On the sth inst; H. M'GuHoeh,/ Esq^ 8.M., held a., sitting of the court" here, when the following cases were adjudicated upon :— Barry v. M'Lean was a case from Orepuki, in which the plaintiff, a storekeeper there, sued the defendant, a miner, for a debt, reduced to £LOO, for goods sold, and delivered. ; Subsequently to the serving of the summons, M'Lean had filed his schedule, and claimed projection on that account. Judgment was, however, given for plaintiff for the full amount, - with costs.— ln Simpson v. Toung, £13- 5s 6d for ferry dues and goods supplied, and Lee y. Louis Henri, £3 13s, goods supplied, judgment was recorded, in favor of plaintiffs, neither >bf the defendants putting in an appearance. Port v. Hood, £5 15s for work and labor done. This was a claim brought against Mr Hood as treasurer to the Oddfellows. As there was considerable discrepancy in the evidence, the case was dismissed, plaintiff paying costs. — Cameron v. Bowles was a claim for 10s, defendant having sent the. plaintiff: up-country with a message. Verdict for 5s and costs. — Cassels v. Cameron was a dispute as to the erection of a boundary fence. DefenT dant (who did not appear) was said tc have refused to come to any arrangement. The court ordered that the fence should be constructed at the mutual cost of the parties. . On Thursday evening last, annexation day, a public meeting was held at the Marine hotel, for the purpose of ; considering the best way of meeting our new Superintendent, should he favor Riverton with a visit. . The meeting was numerously attended. L. M'Giilivray, Esq., M.H.JI., was voted to the chair, when a very strong committee was elected to carry but details.
