Bank of New Zealand shares (new issue) are selling at £14< ss. There ia no inquiry for old. At a sale of grain, ex Margaret Campbell, from Oamaru, held to-day, barley sold at from 3s 6d to 4s ; oats, 3s 9d to 3s lOd; wheat, 4s sd; flour, £16. Innes, late Deputy Cointnissary-G-ene-ral, charged with embezzling Imperial .G-overnment moneys, has been found guilty and sentenced to five years' imprisonment. An inquest on the body of the man !Flynn was held to-day, when a verdict of " found drowned " was returned. The weekly crushing of the Golden Crown claim has yielded a return of 457 ounces. The Plying Cloud, at Coromandel, realized 18 ozs. from 15 tons of stone. The Golden Point, on the same field, crushed one ounce to the ton. September 19. The brig Moa has arrived from Tahiti. The rejectionof the Tariff Bill has not lowered the price of wheat. The " bailiff" difficulty at the Thames has been settled. A great Native meeting is to be held at the Thames on Thursday next. Wellington, Sept; 18.' The Independent denies officially that there is any cause for alarm in the Native meeting at Pariaka. It says that Tito Kowaru intimated his intention to be present, but in no hostile spirit. Mr Parris is going to attend on behalf of the Government. — Daily Times.
