The mean temperature of the air in the month was 44*5 deg., which is 2*4 deg. above the average 'of; the same month in 10 years. Very little hail or snow (latter on one day only), and no gales or fogs. Mean temperatureof air, 41*8 deg., or about the same as the 10 years' average of the same month. Rainfall, 4*46 inches, or 1.09 inch above the average. ATTG-tJST. — Very fine dry month; more constant easterly winds than at any time since 1858 — wind from eastward on 24 days— W. only 2 days. No gales, fogs, or severe frosts, or thunderstorms, hail, or snow, until the evening of the 31st, when some hail-squalls occurred, followed at 6 p.m by a severe thunderstorm, with four hours* heavy snoWj which, however, melted before, morning. The Aurora Australis was frequently risible, especially on the 18th, 21st, and 22nd. Average reading of barometer very low ; mean temperature of air, 43 *0 deg.— 23 deg. below 10 years', average (this deficiency was owing to the low day temperature, resulting from the cold, ; dry, easterly winds, the night frosts being very alight) ; rainfall, 1*94 inch— 2"6s inches less than the average.. The barometer fell to 28*93 on the Bth without any apparent result ; heavy easterly gales were, however, reported off the coast and out at sea.
