MICBOETE, Auctioneer, reports :— . The amount of transactions which have taken place during the last month has been somewhat limited. Considerable enquiry exists for stock of all descriptions, but there is a difficulty in bringing sellers and buyers to anything like terms, the former being firm in their demands, and the latter unwilling to advance on former quotations. . Cattle. —Nearly every description of cattle are in fair demand. Beef may be quoted at 20s per lOOlba: Mixed mobs at £2 10s to £310s. MUch cows dnll of sale, ncless unreserved, in which case an improved value is manifested. Sheep. —Fat wethers and - half-breds —find" purchasers at higher rates; other descriptions are unsought. Horses. —The business in the yards is almost a formality; very few good useful horses come in, but are always saleable. Unbroken colts and fillies find buyers. Properties. —Very little disposition to speculate exists in farms, houses, or town sections. I sold 2 half-sections extending from Esk to Don streets —the former at £35, the latter at £20. The sale held at Menzies' Ferry was much more numerously attended than could have been expected, and fair market rates were offered, either at the hammer or privately, and declined. Heavy reserves are calculated to render country sales in any district perfectly futile in the future, and in fact the best prices ruling are in instances where the auctioneer is enabled to announce perfect freedom from reserve.
