The MJLand N.Z. Co.'s s.s. Gothenburg left Port Phillip Heads at 5.30 p.m. on the 27th ; passed Swan Island at 8 p.m. on the following day; experienced light S.E. winds and calms" during the passage, sighting the land at 8 p.m. on the Ist hist., arid arriving on the 2nd, bringing 14 passengers, and 40 tons of cargo for this pert. The seh. Maria Douglass that arrived on Saturday from Invercargill, iB a new vessel, having been built at that port by Mr W. H. Brace for Mr H. T. Boss, and during this her maiden trip has acquitted herself much to the. satisfaction of her commander. Her length is 54ft. by a beam of 18ft., and a depth of hold of Bft. Of the passage j from Ittvercargill, Captain Smith reports that he j left on the 23rd ulfc, and had to contend against , heavy westerly gales until Thursday last, since ■when S .E. winds were had.— Melbourne Kerald, The trip to the Fiji Islands by the s.s. Alhambra i» likely to be availed of by a great many people. Already several cabins have been taken up, and by the 20th of August — her day of sailing — it is expected that she will be a full ship. Captain John M'Lean will return in time to take command of the Alhambra. — Argus, July 27. ♦
