"Wellington, August 2, 10 a.m. The Government has just received intelligence of an attack haying been made by a party of Hau Hans upon the Friendly Natives at Tologa Bay [East Coast], when two of the Friendlies were wounded. Reinforcements were immediately sent from Poverty Bay to their support. Q-. S. Coopeb, Under Secretary.
Napieb, August 3. The Government steamer "Luna, just arrired from Poverty Bay, brings a report that on Sunday last 70 friendlies attacked Te Kooti, but being too precipitate in firing, before the rear force got into position, allowed Te Kooti to escape. They captured Huhuroa, Te Kooti's wife, together with six rifles, ammunition, food, clothes, &c. Huhuroa states that Te Kooti had only 20 men; that not one of them had his cartouche box full of powder. . Eopata starts this morning with 170 men after Te Kooti.
