Application to the Government for the repair of 'bridges and culverts, from time to time, is met by the reply, "We have no funds I** In these circumstances, would it not be wise to utilise the fine two-inch planking ;«f the breakwater, now not required, at the railway diversion below Mr Dalrymple's property ? This planking would be valuable for platforms along the northern railway for accommodation to the settlers at {hfe various crossings. In my perambulations for fresh air, I have noticed that this planking is being carried off. [We will inquire into the matter, and answer our correspondent's questions in next issue.— Ed. 8. T~\ .v.
