Bombay, June 8. The Maharajah of Puttialla and Sir. Jung Bahadoor are appointed Grand Commanders of the Order of the Star of India. Messrs "W. "Grey, A. X Arthbuthnot, E. C. Bagley, Colonels Daws, Longden, Huellier, Anderson, Dillon, and" three native princes,, are appointed commanders of the same order. ~ a Sir H. Durand succeeds Sir Donald M'Leod as lieut.-governor of the Punjaub. ; A. grand banquet has been, given at Lahore to Sir Donald M'Leod. The Viceroy was present. The farewell letter of the Duke of Edinburgh to the Viceroy, reviewing his reception throughout India, has-been much praised. • ' The reconstruction of the Albert Assurance Society is. distrusted in India. New Italian, French, and English steam companies are started to provide cheap passages between Bombay and Europe. # . C. Hughes, the celebrated billiardplayer, died at Calcutta. A consignment of Australian produce was successful as atrial venture.
