AN ENQUIRY.
(to tbcb editor of thb tiu:e3.) Sir, — That "Willy Steel had his annual concert this year at the Long Bush, on the 24th May, the Queen's birthday, is a fact well known to all the admirers of native minstrelsy in the province of Southland. The proceeds were advertised to be given to the Hospital as usual. As one who takes an interest in the prosperity of that invaluable institution, I cannot understand why the receipt of the money has not yet been acknowledged by the treasurer, to whom it must have been paid at least a month ago. There is surely a lack of courtesy here ; had the sum been ten pounds from a wealthy squatter, instead of about two from a poor " native songster," we should have had a naming local on the subject. — I am, &c, Justitia. [In regard to the above, we find, on enquiry, that the proceeds, amounting to £1 18s, were handed over by Willy to a gentleman at the Long Bush, to be by him transmitted to the treasurer of the Hospital ; and that they have not yet been paid to that official, so that he at least is acquitted of all blame in the matter. — Ed. S. T.~]
