Mr D. Marrorie, Auctioneer, reports : — .The sale at Hay ward's farm on the 4th inst. ■was well attended, and very fair prices were realised. The flooded state of the roads being asainstthe driving of young stock, no doubt checked buyers from a distance ; and as the cattle >-, : offered were merely a first draft — consisting of the inferior portion of Mr Hayward's stock — it is more than probable that intending purchasers held back for the reserved mob. The condition of those sold was rather poor — several of the (cows heing aeed; Quotations are as follows : — Dairy cows, £3 to £5 5s ; heifers, £2 to £3 ; steers, 35s to 50s ; sows (with litters of 8 and 9), - £5 to £6 ; portable forge, <&?., £7 10s; hoise power, £16 10s;: reaping, do, £15 15?; chaff cutt<r,_£l3 ; mill and gear, £5 ; winnowing "macfunej 275; dray, horse, and harness, £27 ; good saddle and harness mare, £15 59 ; prime cheese 8d ; bacon, 7d ; fowls and ducks, Is lOd to 4s 2d. Other implements and furniture, too numerous, to mention, realised satisfactory rates. Owing to the lateness of the hour, the sale had to be concluded before the farms could be offered. • There .was a poor attendance at the sale of town property in Esk-street on the following day, and -the lot was bought in. The owner was compelled to insert in the conditions of sale that, though divided into lota, all or none must be sold ; and as no suitable offer was obtained for the first put ' up, that which undoubtedly would have found brisk bidding, was not offered. : : Irivercargill, 10th May, 1870.
