OTAGO.

The Daily Times of the 4th reports t— The week has opened quietly, and the markets continue with a languid feeling. There is, in consequence, little of interest to note in transactions, and prohahly a day or two will elapse before anything of importance will be done in the import markets. We note trade sales of most goods at fairly sustained rates, and one or two items besi 'es sugars and kerosene which have firmness, but general demand remains too slack to allow of anything beyond the tendency being alluded to. In liquids there are moderate sales, chiefly of case goods of spirits and- beers, the corresponding goods in bulk having little attention. Cornsacks are prill quiet ; and teas not looked for. In the produce market there are a few fair sized operations) going on in wheats and oats, at unchanged values.? Barleys are not in much demand, and the millers report a comparatively light enquiry for flour, and but small indication of an outside trade of any importance can be perceived at present. The auction sales occurring have been of no moment. The Oamaru Times of the 3rd reports : — Business during the past week has shown signs of improvement, country orders coming in more freely. Prices for grain are firmer, especially for oats and wheat, a demand for oats for the Coast trade having sprung up. Present quotation, 2s to 2s Id nett ; good sound wheat is at 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; barley has receded from 3s 6d (last quotation) to 3s Id ; flour, £10 10 to £11 ; potatoes, £2 per ton.
