(to thb editor of thb tucks.) Sib,—l fancy those who know best|the . hon. member who represents loyercargill in the House of Representatives—Mr Wood—are not in the least surprised that
that gentleman has not followed the magnanimous action of Mr Hankinson in resigning his seat in that House, because of his belief that his views and those of his constituents did not tally on the question of the union of this province to Otago. Mr Wood knows well that at least twothirds of the electors of Invercargill are against the union of the two provinces, and ought in accordance with his pledges at once to resign his seat. How can he act honestly in dealing with the union question when it comes before the Q-eneral Assembly ? And on a question of such importance it is demanded that every constituency should be honestly represented, especially that of the capital city of the province proposed to be extinguished. It appears, however, that Mr "Wood's love of office has got the better of any inclination or promptings he may have had to act the independent and manly part. He has not even had the courage to call a meeting of his constituents to have a confab, on the important question which engrosses all attention at present. In these circumstances, if the electors of this town are true to themselves, they .will call upon Mr Wood to resign his seat as their representative in the General Assembly, Ah Electob.
