' Hobabt Towing April 16. Mr Samuel Page has purchased Ellenthorpe hall, Boss, from Mr Charles Clark, for £24,000. A letter has been received from Bishop Murphy stating :that he had presented the Latin address from the clergy of this diocese to the Pope, who conversed with the bishop about Tasmania and showed much interest In it. Me admired the penmanship of the address, and, through the bishop, has sent a cameo to each of the gentlemen who wrote and ornamented the address, They are Messrs T. Kelsh and Leventhorpe Hall, both natives of Tasmania. April2o. A letter has been received bj__ the Salmon Commissioners from Dr G-unther, a piscatorial authority in England, ia reference to the two fish caught here some time ago, and said to be young salmon. They were preserved in spirits and sent home for inspection. Dr Gunther says they are not salmon, but salmon trout of immature growth. Others dispute the doctor's opinion, but consider it a satis* factory proof that the salmon trout from the original ova sent out here have become acclimatised. April 22. A fine sample of 7oz 7dwt of rich nuggety gold, from the Nine-mile Springs, has been sent to the Commercial Bank, and is exhibited there. Partridge acclimatisation on Slopen Island has proved for the present a failure. The cats, which were thought to have been exterminated, have been again found there, and all the partridges killed except one hen.
