FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE IN RUSSIA. — The foot and- mouth disease is now very prevalent in all parts of the Russian ; empire. At the agricultural 'exhibitiott which has just been held at St. Petersburg, 257 cattle died of this disease. The cattle plague (rinderpest) has also broken n out ih St. Petersburg and in Eastern Eussia. This is a hopeful sign; by-and-by Mr Fawcett may have the great bulk ofthe farmers with him pa this question of the education of the ! laborer's child. - The advantages of steam are being favorably displayed on- the larin of Balhouffie, Scotland, tenanted by Mr Andrew Gilchrist. A \ locomotive engine for ploughing and otherwise cultivating the soil, is applied with the. greatest success in tearing up old hedges, trees, &c, and the roots of the latter, with several tons weight of soil, &c, adhering thereto, are : removed with great ease.
