The last block of the Timaru .Harbor Works was successfuUy laid on the morning of the 24th' ult. The whole work, it is said, stands splendidly.. Inocttla-Tioit fob Cattle Disease. — The Chamber of Agriculture Journal, in some remarks upon inoculation for cattle disease, says the only way of testing the value of inoculation as a preventative of pleuro-pneumonia is by a series of careful and complete experiments. It is, however, somewhat difficult to secure a really thorough experiment, for farmers are not very willing, in the first piace, to inoculate their herds; and in the next place, to send them among cattle suffering from pleuro-pneumonia. We have much pleasure in stating that Mr Tollemache, M.P., has made an offer which will enable the value of inoculation to be tested in a most effective way. Mr Tollemache has caused several of his cattle, perfectly free from disease, to be carefully inoculated with virus taken from the lung of an animal which died of pleuro, and he i prepared to send these cattle among diseased herds, in order to see whether they are proof against the malady. We cannot doubt this handsome offer will be taken advantage of, aud that it will tend to the solution of what is now a questio vexata.
