The Argus of the 19th inst. reports • —^ln the import markets husiness maintains an aspect of great quietness, and few ■ transactions , of an important character are allowed to transpire. Advices from London state that the stock is very moderate, and values are advancing ; fine Sussex were bringing £7" to £8, arid Best East Kent £11 ills to £12 12s. A preference is given by consumers ,to English grown over American, Belgian J _and_Bavarian, though they are lower in price. A shipment of blasting powder, an outs^e brand, has" been .placed' &t 4jd. ■ : In timber, Ye note the s^e of the Hindoo's cargo of red deals, all faults. - 7 a 959 pieces ? were ..disposed of. NAS brand, ll'x'3, brought 4d' 7-16ths to 4Jd rper f00t.9 x 3j; 4f was:realised for 9 x 3, and 4d 3-16ths for 7x 3 per foot 9x 3 ; Cx B, 11 x3. sold at 4±d ; 9 x 3 at'4id to 4£d ; while 7x3 -and 7x-2i brought 4£d per -foot 9-X--3.— The business done in liquids has been almost entirely confined *to the day's auction sale, when Warrenheip geneva, in bulk, was quitted at 3s 6d to 3s 9d per gallon, and at lis to 12s 6d per case, in bond. , Jules Robin's brandy, in hulk, was placed at 5s 9d to 6s. Hennessy's case, brandy was got rid of at 253 10£ d. Campbelltown whisky, in bulk, brought 3a .lOJfd.
