CUSTOMS RETURNS.

The following returns of the Imports and Exports at the several ports of New Zealand during tbe quarter ended 31st December, 1869, are from the New Zealand Gazette : — Imposts.— From United Kingdom, £675,053 ; British Possessions, £636.331 ; Foreign States, £85,464. Total, £1,396,848, against a total for the corresponding quarter of 1868 of £1,506,996. The imports at the various ports were as follow : — Auckland, £404,788; Russell, £40,* Mongonui, £113 1 Hokianga, £1519 j New Plymouth, £3275 ; Wanganui, £7897; Wellington, £115.572; Napier, £29,102 ; Wairau, £772 ; Picton, £546 ; Nelson, £70,452 ; Westport, £17,019 ; Greymouth £54,687; Hokitika, £60,177; Okarita, £2283 i Lyttelton, £166,928; Akaroa, £45; Timaru, £12,961; Oamaru, £930; Donedin, £413,702; Invercargill, £28,190; Binff Harbor, £l 621; Riverton, £4329. The total imports of the whole Colony for the year 1869, are valued at £4,976,126, against £4,985.748 for the year 1868. Exsobts.— The total exports of the year were £4,223,923 against a total for 1868 of £4,429,198 ; and for the quarter ended 31st Dee. 1869 £761,711, against a total for the corresponding . quarter of the previous year of £862,813. Tho figures £761,711 are thus made up :— To United Kingdom, £139,045; to British Possessions, £607,628; to Foreign Counlries, £15,038; the following figures being credited to tbe several ports, viz :— Auckland, £214.137; Hokianga, £2060 ; Wanganui, £2589 ; Wellington, £19,530 ; Napier, £45 ; Picton, £220 ; Nelson, £16,637 ; Westport, £64.675; Greymouth, £119,693; Hokitika, £105.816; Okarita, £6834; Lyttelton ; £15,149; Dunedin, £186,075; Invercargill, £3443 ; Bluff Harbor, £1608 ; Riverton, £3200. Ak._i.vsis op expobts. — The foUowing are the principal items in the quarter's exports. Flax, £16,470 ; (an immense advance upon the corresponding quarter of 1868, when the figures were £2204). Gold dust, £609(465 ; Grain £14,852 ; Kauri Gum, £31,249 ; Hides, leather, and skins, £4426 ; Flour, bran, and oatmeal, £2245 ; Tallow, £2300 ; Timber £2707 ; Wool, £46,261.
