Hobabt Town, March 8. The Government have decided not to grant any more mining leases, but they intend to encourage persons taking 1 miners' rights instead. A writ has been issued for Pembroke, j to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Whyte ' accepting the office of scab inspector. It is the intention of the southern cricketers to invite the Victorian eleven to play a match here after the Launceston match is concluded. The Zingari, from Mauritius with sugar, for Dunedinj' has had the 7 leakstopped, and will sail for her destination to-morrow. March 11. The Sapphire, whaling barque, belonging to Salier, arrived here last night. She has lost three boats, and had obtained 42^ tuns of sperm since the 16th of July. News has been received to the effect that the Othello, belonging to the Johnsons, whalers, was on the middle ground, and had caught a whale which they expected would make up her lot to 26 tuns of sperm since the llth August. The Wagoola has cleared for London with wool, bark, and leather. The cargo is worth £24,245. Wheat is selling at from 4s to 4s 6d ; oats, at 2s 6d ; and Cape barley at 3s per bushel.
