NEW ZEALAND FLAX.
Messrs M'Landtt'Ss Hepburn & Co. report that they held their periodical sale of flax and tow on the 2lßt ult., at the stores of Mr J. W. Jago, Stuart-street, Dunedin. The attendance, as usual, was large, and for the scutched sample?, the competition was good, and the prices realised were Jully equal to laßt sale. The unscutched parcels were all bought in, buyers not feeling disposed to give equal to previous prices — tliis may be accounted for by the feet that the samples offered were not so carefully prepared as formerly.*"- All manufacturers who do not scutch ought to be careful to leave as little of the grass in the fibre as possible, and aim at securing a bright color. One very superior sample of tow brought £9 7b 6d per ton, but this mutt not be taken as a criterion of value. . .
